5th Annual Folsom Community Service Day

Military Care Packages Project - September 15, 2018

For the 5th year in a row, Rolling Hills Blue Star Moms has participated in the Folsom Community Service Day, a city wide volunteerism day with over 3000 Folsom residents and friends completing more than 50 community service projects throughout the city of Folsom.

We prepared for our community service day project, "Care Packages for Military", on Friday, September 14 by gathering all the donations that were received through KCRA/Red Cross Operation Care Package, 2nd Annual Drive held at Franchise Tax Board,  5th Annual Donation Drive by Benevento Chiropractic, Bed, Bath and Beyond in Folsom Cashier Troop Chase Donation Drive, City of Folsom residents that donated at the 2nd Annual One Day Drive Through Donation Day held at the Steve Miklos Aquatic Center and many individual donors.  Once all the donations were at the  Folsom Veterans Hall, we sorted, arranged and set up the assembly line (see the first few photos on the slide show)!   It took us over 6 hours to get everything set up because of so many donations, however, this was not such a terrible problem to have!   Thank you to all the organizations for their generosity and continued support of our organization.

The day of the pack, started at 8 am, with over 80 volunteers coming to pack 500 care packages!  In just over 3 hours, we filled, sealed and loaded (500) care packages into carts and sent them to the post office.   Mid way through the Pack, we ran out of toothbrushes, but thanks to Crystal Anderson, DMD, she raced to her office and brought back toothbrushes to finish our pack!  Thank you Ms. Anderson!  We love the outpouring of support!  The care packages are on their way to deployed service members all over the world.

Special thanks to the City of Folsom, Mayor Steve Miklos, Council Member Ernie Sheldon, Christine Brainerd, Folsom Commutations Manager/organizer of the FCSD, Intel Coproration, and Dignity Health for their huge support of our project!  Also, thanks go out to Folsom's local Chapters of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Marine Corps Devil Dogs for altering their meeting schedule for the day to give us the space at the Folsom Veterans Hall to complete the pack!   We can't leave out all the individual and organizations like the Military Order of the Purple Heart, El Dorado Hill Rotary, Cappuccino Cruisers Car Club,  Operation Care Package Donors, Ponderosa High School Military Service Club, Hands of Hope, Folsom Lake Lions, City of Folsom and many more that made monetary donations to help defray the postage cost of over $8.000 to mail (500) care packages!

Finally, thank you to the many, many volunteers that made this the 5th successful care packaging event; we couldn't do what we do without you!   Cheers to another successful Folsom Community Service Day!

To make our Packing Parties a success we rely on your donations - monetary and goods. You may drop off any donations of goods at the Folsom Veterans Hall located at 1300 Veterans Way in Folsom, Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Donations can be left in the entry way, marked with RHBSM, and while you are there you can stop in the Canteen to quench your thirst!     You can easily contribute a monetary donation by clicking the DONATE button above.

Do you know a deployed service member's name and address?

We'd love to send them a care package!
